Wireless internet access is everywhere. Aiports, cafes, schools, universities, and now even the streets of London's Square Mile are all equipped with magic wire-free internet access, making it even easier for us bloggers to get that vitally important post up and available.

But is it safe? Many sources, including the BBC and The Independent, report on the apparent dangers of wireless internet. Surely all these invisible waves zapping around our heads can't be doing us any good?

Despite the fact that no conclusive studies have been made in this area, a number of UK schools have moved to ban wi-fi networks, believing them to be particularly harmful to the developing brains of children, with the Professional Association of Teachers requesting that schools stop installing them until they are proved to be safe.

But bear in mind that wi-fi newtorks are known to be significantly less harmful than mobile phones, due to the fact that they only need to transmit a mere number of metres. Wouldn't it be better to campaign for children not to use mobile phones, rather than removing the undoubted educational benefits provided by wi-fi networks?

Looking for a wireless connection near you? Check out FON and The Cloud (providers of the Square Mile network) for details.

It's time again for Technorati's fascinating State of the Live Web report.

This report continues to track the expansion of blogging as a mainstream media, as well as documenting changes in the blog world, from the use of tagging to the dominant blogging languages.

Since the last report in October 2006, the blog world has continued to grow - now Technorati tracks 1.5 million posts per day, as well as about 1.4 new blogs per second.

For most of us English speakers, it comes as something of a surprise to see Japanese as the prevalent language - 37% of all blog posts are in Japanese, compared to 36% in English. It's also interesting to note that Italian comes in in fouth place in the language list with 3% of all posts, behind Chinese with 8%.

The report also looks at the explosive growth of tags in recent months, with 35% of the 230 million posts that Technorati indexes now using tags.

So what does this mean for us bloggers? Well, it means that we are an increasingly important part of mainstream media, in an increasingly international and user-friendly blogosphere. I for one feel honoured to be part of this movement. I'm already looking forward to Technorati's next State of the Live Web report, to see how much further we have come.
