    Dear bloggers,

Soon all of blog.co.uk will be readjusted to fit in with our new design. This will just be an aesthetic alteration. These changes are only the tip of the iceberg of the work that has gone on here at blog HQ - the software structure behind these changes is entirely new.

Most of the changes are focussed in the 'Edit Profile' section. The functions will be the same, the changes are to do solely with appearance. Below is a sneaky sneak preview, so that the new look doesn't drive you blue in the face with frustration. ;)
    New profile page

As well as this, there will also be a cool new feature: The Guestbook!
    New Guestbook 1

This much-requested feature will have its own tab on the 'Profile' page. Please note that the guestbook is active as standard. If you don't want a guestbook, you can easily deactivate it by going to 'Profile' -> 'Guestbook'.
    New Guestbook 2

As always, feedback and criticism are welcome!

  • Dear community!

In collaboration with the market research company, we have developed a NetObserver®-Questionnaire regarding the European Internet usage.
We would be very happy, if you spend about 15 minutes completing the questionnaire. The results from this survey allow us to understand the perception and expectations of our users better in order to be even more responsive to your desires.
Any information you provide within the survey will remain strictly confidential and will never be passed onto any third party.
You have also the chance to participate in a prize draw with a total value of more than £3000.

Just click on the following link to start the questionnaire: Start survey now!

Thank you very much for your participation!

Here's a great little Firefox add-on that will endlessly improve your blogging experience.

It checks spellings anywhere you write in Firefox, and suggests corrections when you type something wrong.

It's also possible to install more than one language dictionary - to switch between them, just go to 'Tools' and 'Add-ons' to deactivate and reactivate as required.

We're currently in the later stages of a redesign of the.blog.co.uk. We hope that the new the.blog will result in more efficient communication of news and features from blog HQ to you, our valued bloggers, and naturally, better possibilites for all of you to communicate to us how you feel about our work.

We have decided that each post will be tagged with one of five tags, effictively splitting them into one of five categories. They are as follows:

    New features
This will keep you informed on what's new with blog.co.uk.

    The Blogosphere
Interesting news and articles from around the blogosphere.

    Technical Information
This will tell you how to use the features on blog.co.uk, e.g. how to implement HTML, widgets, etc.

    Other
Anything else that we feel is interesting.

However the final category is causing us some difficulty here at HQ. It will be a category to keep you informed about predicted downtimes, essential maintenance, etc. We can't agree on a name for this category, and so we would like to throw it open to the general blogging public. Please let us know what you think by voting below.

A recent decision by the US Federal Election Commission (FEC) has held that blogs count as media.

This decision, which stated that blogs fall squarely under the "media exemption" to US election campaign finance rules, has hardly sent shockwaves through the blog community, however we here at blog.co.uk feel that it is an important step forward in recognising blogs as a valuable part of global media.

Whether this actually results in a change in perceptions of blogging remains to be seen, but either way, we are waiting for similar recognition this side of the pond.
