As most of you probably noticed, performace here on BCUK has been rather slow over the last few days, particularly yesterday.
After a long night repelling the attacks of nasty spammers, we are back running at full speed. The BCUK coffee machine might never be the same again though... 
We will soon be moving to a new data centre which will mean an increase in overall stability and better performance. We'll have more details about that next week, but rest assured that it will be more difficult for spammers to affect the platform in the way they did over the last few days.
So a sincere thank you to everyone for being so patient with us.

I did - but maybe didn't notice. Let me explain.
For some unknown reason, my beloved BCUK is now no longer allowed by our over-zealous work servers. Apparently, you're prone to Spyware and Adware - which I neither believe, or understand, seeing as myspace, facebook etc are fine.
I ain't leaving this place - it's my home - but, is there a quick fix without necessarily alering my IT dept?

try a ping www.blog.co.uk and tracert www.blog.co.uk (in an execute window of windows xp/vista) and email the output to our support, if they did lock out bcuk, can you still access our other domains?

well done guys. So what do the spammers do? I noticed the odd comment on other blogs where they are advertising something or other via their comment, and i noticed a rash of weird posts ususally in an illedgible language, are they the spammers?
the one that was teasing us this week was registring massive amounts of users (1000-1500 each day) and started to posting massive amount of posts, comments, private messages etc one or two days later.
May I ask you what is a featured blog?
And how is it possible that let's say someone who hasn't been blogging for a year suddenly is "featured"?

The criteria for selection to the Features Blogs is top secret, but it factors in comments, views, recent posts, links, etc.
The exact recipe is top secret, and will remain that way.
But shouldn't be possible that someone who hasn't blogged in a year is up there. When was this?

Well, it is possible if he had a large number of views on that day. Posting often is important, but so are many many other factors.
So it's not a bug.
But astutely observed!

I'm still not getting email notification so you're still barred from Hotmail...is there anything you can do about this, please? It's so frustrating...everything else is working but this is rather important...big hugs...
