Dear bloggers,
You can tag posts, blogs, profiles and media, and in the very near future, there will be a few changes to the tag system to make it even better.
Soon tags will be completely 'international' - you'll be able to use characters from other languages in tags, as well as numbers and other symbols. Pretty much everything will be useable as a tag, except HTML code. Tags will soon have to be at least two characters and could potentially consist of up to fifty, as well as up to five separate words.
They will also be displayed exactly as you enter them, and to allow our system to process all the new tags, special characters will not appear alongside the letters, numbers and hyphens in the URL of the blog post.
User tags and Interests will be limited to 150 tags, and posts, groups blogs, normal blogs, friends and designs will be limited to a maximum of fifteen tags.
Unfortunately, old tags that do not fulfill the criteria mentioned above will be deleted. If the changes affect any of your tags, you'll receive a Private Message from us informing you which ones have had to be deleted.

So when you say deleted that's the tags not the posts?
Yes, tags could be deleted, but not posts.
Please use English properly. Not 'could be',you mean 'have been'. Arbitrarily.
If you want to be pedantic ... it should say "will be". Check the date of his reply
Then it should be 'shall be'. 'Will' implies choice or that there is some doubt.
I was referring to the butchery which had actually occurred by the time I commented.
On mypoetry blog I've always tagged my poems "poem" This tag has now been removed from all but my two post recent ones (yesterday's and the day before). I presume this is because I have more than 150 poems???

we have not yet deleted any tag, and there is no reason why this special tag should have been deleted, we are investigating the issue currently.

Seems like you tagged all of them with 'poetry' - there are 261 posts tagged with it.
You blog can be tagged with a maximum of fifteen tags (under blogs->settings), and an individual post may only have fifteen tags. The number of different tags that your can tag your individual posts with is unlimited.
Hi - no I tagged each new one "poem" + "poetry" + their title. When I subsequently re-post a poem I only tag the post with the title of the poem.
Up until the other day both "poem" and "poetry" definitely showed exactly the same number ie currently 262 poems. "Poem" now only shows 2.
I can't believe that anyone has gone through 260 posts and systematically removed one tag from each therefore assume it was somehow done in one go.
Strangely enough on today's posting "poetry" and "poem" tags have now also disappeared though I definitely put them on!
Marian, it looks like there has been a mess up. I have just received a PM telling me some of my tags have been removed. Since your tag "poem" doesn't fit any of the criteria for deletion, it seems that a rather large bug must have crawled into the BCUK system! Typically, the reason for tag deletion was sent to me in German:
- Die Mindestanzahl von Zeichen für ein Tag wurde nicht eingehalten. Ein Tag muss mindestens aus 2 zusammenhängenden Buchstaben oder Zahlen bestehen (a-z, A-Z, 0-9).
- Das Tag enthält zu viele Wörter. Ein Tag darf nur aus maximal 5 Wörtern bestehen. Bitte trenne Deine Tags mit Kommas und nicht mit Leerzeichen.
- Tags dürfen nicht länger als 50 Zeichen sein.

It's a nuisance as I had a "system" that worked for me and helped me keep track of my poems. Had I not used both "poem" and "poetry" tags it would have been even worse than it is.
I'm not sure what this means "User tags and Interests will be limited to 150 tags". Some consultation might be useful so that BCUK can understand tagging systems such as mine.
Thanks for commenting - as you say there must be a bug in there somewhere - I doubt if my tags will re-appear
This unconsulted change is unacceptable. I hope everyone who has an issue with it mails support@blog.co.uk to register their displeasure. We've had no explanation, no consultation and no warning. It's possible that someone messed up of course...

Tom, I dont think Blog Uk really care what we think or what we want. Remember, their featured blogs most days, are full of spamming blogs and those trying to sell you something. Those of us with nice blogs dont get a bloody look in. Makes you wonder if they have been taking a leaf out of Yahoo's books, they are always screwing the users around and 'improving' things that are just fine as is.
And those getting replys in German, well thats bloody classic lol.
The "featured blogs" feature has also been removed, along with "the buzz". No notification of that at all!
I was rather surprised to get that German reply - this is bc UK after all!

You have to understand that these people operate in an authoritarian culture which in no way corresponds to a civilised or sensible way of doing things. Maybe they just want to drive away the bloggers who use it so that their site has no-one using it except the spammers.
I do not like this new system, some of my most useful tags are over five words long. One of the best things about BCUK was the freedom to tag as you pease and now you've taken it away. I doubt I will continue my subscription to pro status if this is not rectified.
The more freedoms you take away the less I want to pay for the priviledge of blogging.

This is nonsense. and in no way could it be described as any kind of an improvement.
Among the tags removed on mine are things like :
Names of international treaties:
UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
Names of organsiations
united-church-of-the-kingdom-of-god
Names of bands
herb-albert-and-the-tijuana-brass
How are people searching for these things to find them if the user tags are not there, or indeed, how am I to find my posts on these topics?
I'm gutted - my use tags to index my poems some titles exceed 5 words
I occurs to me that the decision was made by a German, a language which habitually uses one very long word where Englsih would use two of three. In German it may make sense to have a limit of five words, but in English it is nuts.

I'm sure the TEAM had good reason to do this, but it's the worst change that you've made.
I wish I could go and re-tag my posts to fit with the 'rules' but it would be nigh impossible
If there is such a reason, I think we should be told what it is...
I personally don't see this as an improvement!Am very angry at the deletion of many of my tags! It's not possible to re-tag them using fewer word's..Plus it's time consuming..
Im finding it less appealing here recently if im honest.
And I do not speak a foriegn language so the explanation that I recieved in the E Mail as not helpfull at all!
I agree with you totally, I am finding it more and more annoying to be on here and this is the last straw for lots of people so it would seem. An explanation is very necessary I think, but it may well be too little too late x
Thanks for deleting my tags............not! If I wanted them deleted I would of done it myself now wouldnt I? This site obviously needs users, to exist...........no users, no site, period! I guess we are just nothing to you for you to treat us in this way. Prove we are and reinstate our tags please!

These are my tags for ME! I want them back please, it's my blog and my history. How the hell else am I supposed to tag "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"?
I've now lost links to my blogs because of this.

Consider my subscription cancelled. I'll still write my blog but you can consider my a free user. You're not getting any money from me any more.
It doesn't bother me but clearly others have relied on the tag system more than I have. I assume that there is a reason for the change, so perhaps it might help to explain why this has happened.
I was right, they don't care about their users as they have not had the decency to answer!
